Stayed at Pahala Plantation Cottages for 3 nights at the end of May. We were concerned about ash and SO2 gas from a volcanic eruption. The owner, Julia, was very kind and made sure that we had a good conditioner to filter out the falling ashes in case the air quality was unhealthy. Everything turned out well. The amount of ash was minimal, and SO2 was within acceptable limits. A / C helped. The unit itself was spacious and has everything you need. It is rustic, but in good condition. The bed was comfortable. Free wi-fi. Enjoyed our stay.

Cozy cottages in Pahala Plantation Cottages, keeping the history of the Island. We stayed at half old school teachers home with three bedrooms. We liked being away from the tourist center with easy access to the Volcano National Park. Have in mind… Roosters. Just put a big fan in the window and the white noise will drown them. We liked our stay and the trip!!!

Please note that this is not a hotel. There are several rental houses. The owners live next door to the house where we stayed. Although the city is small, finding a place is a bit confusing. If you can, come in the afternoon. In a small town there is practically no place to eat, so bring food. The house has a fully equipped kitchen, cozy bedrooms and a huge living room! The hostess is very receptive. She worried about our well-being at Pahala Plantation Cottages. It is relatively close to the volcano park and the southern beaches of the island (Green Sand Beach and Black Sand Beach).
